Paris Couture Week - Christian Dior Fall Winter 2012

This was one of the most awaited Couture show of the season. Royalty, designers, editors, movie stars were all present to watch Raf Simons’s debut couture show. Princess Charlene of Monaco, Pierre Cardin, Donatella Versace, Diane Von Furstenberg ,Alber Elbaz, Marc Jacobs, Riccardo Tisci, Alaia,Anna Wintour, Grace Coddington, Hamish Bowles, Alexandra Schulman, Sharon Stone and Jennifer Lawrence were all present in equal attendance.

Belgian Fashion designer, Raf Simons, the new creative director of Dior presented his first collection against a floral backdrop, which was an ode to Christian Dior’s passion for flowers. The wall of five rooms of a Parisian mansion were decorated  with blooming flowers like yellow laburnums, orchids, blue delphiniums, pink and yellow roses. The architectural silhouette (may be also has an influence of Raf’s background in industrial design) was a modern reinterpretation of Dior’s signature hourglass silhouette.

Dior’s iconic Bar jacket was one of the predominant silhouette throughout this ladylike collection .Raf started the show by presenting a tuxedo whose curvaceous jacket (structured after Dior’s iconic Bar jacket) was paired with a cigarette pant which was a perfect  blend of  classic Dior’s silhouette with Raf’s  dynamic design sensibilities. Other key pieces of this ladylike collection were - textured ball gown, strapless peplum top, fur evening dresses, full skirted short evening dresses & a floor sweeping silk skirt. It was interesting to see Raf’s modern sensibilities in a ball dress that was truncated to mid-calf and worn over skimmed pants, thus giving an impression of a huge peplum. House’s signature embroidery, asymmetric structure, ladylike hemline, floral embellishment, luxe tie dye, tulle & silk knits added the required drama to this collection which was a celebration of feminine glamour with an adventurous outing.
