Chanel Spring/Summer 2014: Art in Fashion ???

Karl Lagerfeld has done it again, proving that he is the big daddy of the fashion industry –the ultimate genius and master of showmanship. For Chanel’s spring 2014 show, the designer transformed the iconic Grand Palais into a Chanel modern art gallery with 75 installations designed exclusively for the runway show. The models walked past the backdrop of modern paintings and installations. There were giant Chanel No.5 bottle golden robot, leather chain straps of the signature Chanel handbag and nude mannequin to name a few.

Monsieur Lagerfeld presented a capsule of fresh, youthful and colourful pieces for Chanel’s Spring 2014 collection. With a slight 50’s twist for some of the pieces, the collection offered candy tweed skirt suit, multi coloured maxis to drop waist dresses. In a colour palette of pink, silver, powder blue, rainbow hues, neon, grey & of course black and white, the designer’s modern reinterpretation of   house’s signature tweeds to create various pieces was indeed a vision in itself. Karl further explored the playful humour of spring by offering paint brush stroke print pieces, neon paillettes on jackets and even layering sweaters over the shoulder and tied around the waist, worn with a pair of loose trousers.

Chunky bangles, chokers with giant pearls at the two end resembling headphones, pearl cuffs and variety of bags, in addition to dramatic eye makeup with bobs and fringes captured the artistic essence of Mr. Lagerfeld’s collection.
