Krishna Mehta contemporises Maheshwari weaves: Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2014

Last year she paid a rich tribute to the craftsmanship of Manipur with her Autumn Winter 2013-14 collection at the Lakme Fashion Week and this season designer Krishna Mehta visits the region of Maheshwar in MP to work with the handloom weavers there to develop her new collection for the forthcoming LFW Summer Resort 2014.

Krishna worked closely with the Maheshwari weavers to help them contemporise their designs to cater to today’s fashion forward sensibilities. The men & women’s line for summer/resort ’14  will showcase garments, in a range of hand woven fine Maheshwar cottons and silks created by using  multiple innovative weaving techniques, artistic designs and vibrant color combinations, with a profusion of prints,  appliqué  and  embroidery techniques. The designer’s use of printing and dyeing techniques derived from crafts and traditions across the world and juxtaposing them with the vibrant handloom textiles is definitely something to look forward to.

She is one of those very few designers in this country who has been aggressively championing the cause of handloom weaves and handmade textiles for the past three decades, celebrating the age old weaving legacy of Indian craftsmen. Her association with the weavers of Kutch, Manipur and Benaras in the past has been well received by the industry.

Krishna Mehta, along with the Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, under their  developmental and welfare programs, showcases the vibrant aspects of the rich handloom textiles and weaves of Maheshwar on 14th, March, 2014 at 0730PM at Grand Hyatt, Mumbai.
